Re: Book Series Proposal: (1) Im’Possible, (2) Stripper Diaries, (3) Pregnancies is Ugly Truth, (4) Intersectionality: A Divided Love Story
Dear Penguin Random House Publishers,
I am Tiara Christopher, an emerging author with a powerful and compelling series of memoirs that delve into themes of resilience, self-discovery, and intersectionality. I am thrilled to pitch you “Im’Possible,” the first book in my four-part series, along with detailed synopses and sample chapters of the other three books: “Stripper Diaries,” “Pregnancies is Ugly Truth,” and “Intersectionality: A Divided Love Story.”
About the Series
1. Im’Possible
“Im’Possible” is my debut memoir, narrating my journey of overcoming adversity, finding inner strength, and redefining my identity. This book is a testament to the human spirit’s resilience and the power of believing in oneself against all odds. Through raw and authentic storytelling, I share my experiences, making my readers feel as if they’re sitting next to me, listening to a bedtime story—only this is no bedtime story; it’s my story.
I candidly recount navigating through child molestation and predators, a negligent mother, and being a fatherless child, which led me to the foster care system due to inadequate family support. Despite life’s challenges, I ultimately emerged stronger, taking an unorthodox route that strengthened my faith, belief in God, and will to inspire readers with similar upbringings. My goal is to empower them to find their own paths, not be defined by their environment, and use hazardous conditions to become stronger and reach heights they never thought possible.
2. Stripper Diaries
“Stripper Diaries” offers an unflinching look into my life as an exotic dancer following “Im’Possible.” It delves into the cutthroat nature of this industry, exploring themes such as sex, family, money, loyalty, trust, friendship, exploitation, human trafficking, pimping, and prostitution. Stripping became my path to self-education, a means to build myself into the person I now believe God has called me to be today.
The book goes beyond industry insights, focusing on personal growth, survival, and empowerment through reclaiming one’s narrative. It challenges stereotypes and unveils the nuanced realities behind the scenes. Additionally, I draw upon my education in psychology and communication to elevate my approach to stripping, utilizing these two degrees to take my performance and interactions to a whole new level. This has provided me an unwavering avenue to continuously educate myself.
3. Pregnancies is Ugly Truth
“Pregnancies: The Ugly Truth” delves into the often unspoken and harsh realities of pregnancy. Through my own experiences with the inadequate healthcare system, I explore the physical, emotional, and societal pressures that accompany motherhood. My journey led me to seek the guidance of a midwife and doula, culminating in a home birth that was carried out with absolute faith and confidence.
This book aims to provide a candid perspective, offering support and solidarity to women who feel unheard and unseen in their struggles. It also touches on aspects of breastfeeding, managing a new business, and navigating life as a new dog owner to a German Shepherd with a disorder. Caring for my dog, who was sick due to a missing enzyme, was a revelation as a new dog mom. I learned to prepare his food from scratch and found medications to manage his enzyme disorder.
As a first-time mom and business owner, navigating breastfeeding and coping with sleep deprivation, I want to celebrate all mothers who juggle multiple responsibilities. Being a mom is a 24-hour job, and adding anything else on top only magnifies the challenges.
To all mothers: You go, girl! You’re doing amazing, mama! You’ve got this!
4. Intersectionality: A Divided Love Story
The fourth book, “Intersectionality: A Divided Love Story,” will take a different route as it weaves my personal journey with the broader themes of identity, love, and societal divides. This narrative will address the intersections of race, gender, and culture, showcasing how these aspects influence relationships and self-perception. Being from Oakland, I developed into a businesswoman and attracted a wealthy, privileged partner. The relationship became toxic, and through intersectionality, I explore the belief that my daughter, Elizabeth, was born with the purpose of uniting two cultures that have historically been in conflict due to the deep-seated issues rooted in slavery and the dehumanization of African Americans. Positioned as a follow-up to my first memoir, it sets the stage for returning to the chronological sequence with “Stripper Diaries” next.
Market Potential
My series appeals to a broad and diverse audience interested in memoirs, women’s issues, and intersectionality. The books address current social themes and provide a voice to often underrepresented experiences. Comparable titles that have seen significant success include “Becoming” by Michelle Obama and “Educated” by Tara Westover, both of which have resonated deeply with readers worldwide.
